FAA Blasting Operator
Key Responsibilities & Details
Summary
The candidate will efficiently prepare metal and composite surfaces for repairs or coatings by using compressed air to propel
abrasive materials against the surface. The selected candidate will be subject to random drug screens, as this is a
requirement of the FAA guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Operates abrasive blasting equipment which includes sand blasting machines, portable air compressors, and
relaxed tools
• Prepares the surface by removing contaminants like rust, scale, paint, and coatings to prepare for repairs or painting
• Chooses the appropriate abrasive media like sand, grit, shot for the specific surface and task
• Maintains equipment by cleaning and ensuring it includes both hoses and nozzles
• Adheres to safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Follow instructions by reading and understanding work order requirements
• Identifies parts based on visual and/or electronic descriptions
• Prepares parts for subsequent processes, such as painting, anodizing, or surface treatments
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• HS diploma (or equivalent) and 1+ year/years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and
experience
• Must have the ability to speak, read, write, and understand English proficiently in accordance with FAA guidelines
• Must be familiar with all FAA processes and SPOPS
• Can manage multiple priorities
• Attentiveness to detail and sensitivity to the nature of the position
• Be familiar with the processing of all substrates encountered on the line
• Be familiar with stripping procedures for applicable processes
• Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
