Location: Manhattan, NY (Float between two outpatient dermatology locations)
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM-4:00 PM
Salary: $89,300-$127,000 annually (based on experience)
An established academic outpatient dermatology practice is seeking an experienced Mohs Histotechnologist to join its growing Dermatologic Surgery team. This position plays a critical role in supporting a high-volume Mohs surgery service by processing tissue specimens with accuracy and efficiency to ensure timely patient care.
The Histotechnologist will work closely with Mohs surgeons and the clinical team while rotating between two Manhattan outpatient locations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and process frozen tissue specimens for Mohs surgery
- Embed, section, stain, and gross tissue specimens using cryostat techniques
- Produce high-quality slides for immediate physician interpretation
- Label, organize, file, and maintain pathology slides and specimens
- Maintain cryostat equipment and monitor daily quality control procedures
- Prepare laboratory reagents, solutions, and supplies
- Maintain laboratory documentation, logs, and standard operating procedures
- Assist with laboratory inventory management and regulatory compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, NYSED, and laboratory safety standards
- Support quality assurance initiatives and laboratory accreditation requirements
- Provide coverage for the Lead Mohs Histotechnologist as needed
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to ensure efficient laboratory workflow
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Mohs laboratory experience required
- Certification in Mohs Histology required
- Current New York State license as one of the following:
- Histotechnologist
- Clinical Laboratory Technologist
- Clinical Laboratory Technician
- Pathologist’s Assistant
- Experience performing frozen sectioning, embedding, microtomy, and tissue staining
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced laboratory environment
