Pharmacy Operations & Clinical Director

Compensation: $189,000–$210,000 plus potential sign-on bonus

Position Overview

A large acute care healthcare organization is seeking an experienced pharmacy leader to oversee pharmacy operations, clinical services, medication management, and clinical nutrition programs. This individual will provide strategic and operational leadership while ensuring regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and high-quality patient care across pharmacy services.

The ideal candidate has a strong hospital pharmacy leadership background, experience managing multidisciplinary teams, and a passion for advancing clinical excellence and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for all pharmacy operations and clinical pharmacy services.

  • Oversee departmental planning, budgeting, financial performance, and operational initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state, federal, and accreditation standards.

  • Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and medication management.

  • Direct hiring, coaching, performance management, and professional development of pharmacy staff.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and executive teams to improve clinical outcomes.

  • Manage departmental purchasing, inventory control, and operational efficiencies.

  • Oversee pharmacy residency and student training programs.

  • Support formulary management, medication-use evaluations, and policy development.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary committees and organizational strategic planning.

  • Monitor industry trends and implement best practices across pharmacy services.

Qualifications

Required

  • PharmD from an accredited U.S. college or school of pharmacy.

  • Current Massachusetts Pharmacist license (or ability to obtain prior to hire).

  • Minimum of five years of progressive supervisory experience within a hospital pharmacy department.

  • At least 2–3 years of leadership experience at the Assistant Director level or higher within a hospital pharmacy department that supports a PGY2 Pharmacy Administration residency program.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MPH, MS, or equivalent).

  • Experience managing departmental budgets and financial performance.

  • Knowledge of inventory management and pharmacy automation systems.

  • Experience presenting operational, clinical, financial, or regulatory information to leadership.

  • Familiarity with evolving healthcare regulations and medication management best practices.
