Payroll Specialist

Location: Hartford, CT
Schedule: Hybrid | Full-Time (2 DAYS WORK FROM HOME)
Compensation: $55,000–$65,000 plus comprehensive benefits

A growing, multi-location organization is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to support accurate, timely payroll processing in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. This position will handle high-volume weekly and biweekly payroll for 800+ employees across multiple entities.

Key Responsibilities

• Process high-volume weekly and biweekly payroll accurately and on time.
• Maintain payroll, timekeeping, accrual, and employee data within payroll systems.
• Process wage adjustments, retroactive pay calculations, PTO payouts, and final pay.
• Perform regular payroll audits to identify and correct discrepancies.
• Support payroll-related benefit deductions, withholdings, reporting, and reconciliations.
• Reconcile union billing and assist with union payroll administration.
• Respond to employee and management payroll questions with professionalism and discretion.
• Participate in payroll system enhancements, process-improvement efforts, acquisitions, and implementation projects.
• Ensure payroll practices remain aligned with company policy, wage-and-hour requirements, and applicable tax regulations.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of recent end-to-end payroll experience in a high-volume, multi-site environment.
• Recent hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now required.
• Experience with UKG Workforce Ready is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with union payroll processing and collective bargaining agreements is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of payroll principles, wage-and-hour requirements, and tax regulations.
• Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and data validation.
• Highly organized, analytical, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
• Ability to handle confidential information with sound judgment and discretion.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, service-focused approach.
• Experience using automation or AI tools to improve payroll processes is a plus.
